A Poetry Writing Workshop with Sasha West and Jason Schneiderman

“I’m exhausted. I spent all morning putting in a comma and all afternoon taking it out”- Oscar Wilde.

In this workshop, West and Schneiderman will guide you through the process of generating poems by using things that already exist in the world–specifically artwork and other texts. The first half of the workshop will focus on busting through writers’ block by working with images, giving sure-fire strategies for approaching an image through a poem, and showing how no poet should ever lack for material. The second half of the workshop will focus on subtraction, teaching poets how to use absence and erasure of other written work to create new drafts and produce something truly poetic. Workshop participants need only bring a pen and paper; they can expect to leave with at least two new poems.

This program is presented by Public Poetry, a non-profit organization whose mission is to expose the public to as much good poetry as possible and to promote this art form.

This workshop supported by Poets & Writers Inc.
