An EVENT/full April
Public Poetry is about to turn 4(!) and we’re introducing all kinds of new programs and projects. To make the information easier to find, we’ve reconfigured our web site, so that all will be revealed by going to the EVENT tab. Neat (and tidy)! And you can also subscribe to our free monthly newsletter for updates.
April is a full month. We’re celebrating our 3rd anniversary with our monthly series partner and soul-mate, Houston Public Library. For that special event we’ve got a new line-up of poets, including Winston Derden, Catherine Durham Oldmixon, Yerra Sugarman and Regina Vigil.The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston invited Public Poetry to help them celebrate National Poetry Month in April. Of course, we didn’t want to disappoint so we proposed two projects, The Game, an on-line month-long scavenger hunt in April with clues in poems by Houston Poet Laureate, Gwendolyn Zepeda, Martha Serpas, Bao Long-Chu and Mike Alexander. Be sure to check out the prizes that will go to 4 lucky winners chosen at random. Public Poetry is also bringing the Texas State Poet Laureate, Rosemary Catacalos, to the museum for a free reading at the MFAH’s Artful Thursday on Thursday, April 17 at 6:30 PM.
State Poets Laureate stay busy, and she will also be at UH-Downtown on Wednesday, April 16, from 4:30-5:30 PM, giving a conversational workshop;
Begin Everywhere: A Conversation
Exploring Ways Disparate Elements Make A Poem
as well as mixing and mingling at Public Poetry’s After-Party following the MFAH reading. We’d love for you to join us at this ticketed benefit. And, there’s more this month!! We’re really excited about our new monthly series, Public Poetry: EX LIBRIS!!
